David J.T. Collins, MD, FACEP

Physician, Medical Director, POCUS Director, Host

Bio

Dr. David Collins is an emergency physician committed to advancing rural EMS and pre-hospital care. As the medical director for multiple rural EMS agencies across South Dakota and Minnesota, he works closely with first responders, EMTs, and paramedics to enhance training, implement lifesaving protocols, and bring point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to the front lines. His expertise in emergency medicine, coupled with his passion for education, has helped EMS providers in resource-limited settings deliver high-quality care when every second counts. University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, followed by an emergency medicine residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He trained at the Ultrasound Leadership Academy, learning from some of the best minds in the field, and later became the POCUS Director in UND’s Department of Emergency Medicine.


A dedicated educator, he teaches emergency medicine at UND, instructs at Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS), and has helped design POCUS Boot Camps and clinical electives to prepare future providers for the challenges of rural emergency care. His commitment to education earned him the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences Dean’s Award, recognizing his leadership in medical training and innovation.

When he’s not advocating for rural EMS or revolutionizing emergency medicine, Dr. Collins spends time with his wife, Michelle, and their four cats—Jarvis, Friday, Rhodey, and Happy Hogan. He and Michelle love traveling, visiting family, and unwinding when they find the time. And if he’s not in the ER or working with EMS teams, you might catch him sneaking in a round of golf—when his wife lets him, of course.

Regan Washist, MD

Emergency Medicine Resident Physician, Adjunct Medical Director, Co-Host

Bio

Recent graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Regan Washist is a current first-year resident in emergency medicine with the goal of becoming an emergency medical services director.

Before medical school, she was an emergency medical technician, working in rural and urban areas. She also worked as an intensive care unit technician at a pediatric hospital, bringing experiences from inside and outside the walls of medical facilities. Currently, she conducts research on community paramedics, rural trauma cases, and emergency medical service scopes of practice.

Regan’s husband, Shabad, is a first-year neurology resident physician alongside her. They have two dogs that enjoy hiking, backpacking, and camping when free time is found. 

Phil Aguet, NRP, RN

Paramedic, Law Enforcement, Firefighter, Nurse, Guest Host, Editing Wizard

Bio

Phil is originally from Lakewood, California and has lived in the Chicago area since 2008. He attended Northwestern University and the University of Chicago for Undergraduate and Graduate school, where he focused his studies on emergency management and response to disaster events.


He is also a recent nursing school graduate with plans to become a Nurse Practitioner. Phil has applied his EMS skills in interesting areas having provided expedition medicine in Belize, and scuba rescue and medical support for offshore boat races. He is also a fellowship candidate in the academy of wilderness medicine. Phil has a keen interest in prehospital care advocacy and volunteers annually as a member of the medical committee for the Chicago Marathon. He is excited to be a part of the MMM team and will be handling the editing and production side, as well as the occasional guest host.

Livia Van Humbeeck, MSVI

Medical Student, Volunteer Paramedic, Humanitarian, Co-Host

Bio

Livia is a sixth-year medical student at Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków, Poland. Following her passions, she is pursuing a career in emergency medicine. Her aims after residency are to continue working internationally to aid in global conflicts and austere environments. Before medical school, Livia was an ultrasound model since the age of 13 and a volunteer with the Red Cross at her local Emergency Departments. While as a medical student, Livia has worked as: a volunteer paramedic, a humanitarian in Ukraine since the first days of the war and has volunteered in both pediatric and adult emergency rooms in various capacities.

Outside of the world of medicine Livia enjoys hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and all manner of other outdoor activities. However, most of all she can never say no to a great fantasy book.

Marie Tate, MSIV

Medical Student, Adjunct Medical Director, Co-Host

Bio

Marie Tate is a fourth-year medical student at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences with plans to apply to emergency medicine residency. Her interest in emergency medicine began working as an emergency department scribe, and continued throughout her medical school training as she gained experience in emergency medicine, prehospital medicine, and point-of-care ultrasound. Marie joined the MMM team as a protocol author, podcast co-host, and recently, social media manager.

In her personal life, Marie enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, traveling with friends, baking, cozy hobbies, and yoga. She also works as an ice skating coach, dance teacher, and pregnancy/parenting mentor.

Jason Kells, MSII, NRP

Medical Student, Adjunct Medical Director, Co-Host

Bio

Jason Kells is a second-year medical student at the University of North Dakota. Prior to starting school, Jason was a firefighter in rural Alaska before he moved to Minneapolis, where he was a critical care paramedic experienced in both NICU transport and tactical medicine. Now in medical school, Jason continues to work on two local ambulance services, one rural and one urban. On completion of medical school, Jason would like to pursue emergency medicine and EMS direction.

Outside of school and medicine, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife, camping, and working with his hands as an avid woodworker and leather worker.
